HUNTING FIELD GUIDE

Bowhunting Elk: Closing the Last 100 Yards

Practical setup, wind, cover, and calling considerations for the final approach on a September bull elk.

Build for a Clean Shot

An elk setup should put reliability and penetration ahead of speed alone. Use equipment you can shoot accurately under pressure and from imperfect field positions.

Arrow and Broadhead

Choose a durable arrow with enough total weight and front-end strength for elk. Broadheads should be sharp, spin true, and group with your field points before the hunt.

Know Your Real Range

Your effective range is the distance where you can repeatedly make a clean shot from hunting positions, not the farthest distance you can hit a target on a calm range.

Tune the Whole System

Confirm cam timing, rest position, nock travel, broadhead flight, and sight marks before the season. Small tuning problems become large misses when adrenaline is high.

Rule: Confidence comes from a tuned bow and repeatable practice, not maximum speed.
